CONCEPT

“Becoming who we needed as children”

This design project draws inspiration from the boundless curiosity and creativity we felt as children—when the world seemed vast, dreams were limitless, and imagination had no bounds. The collection is an invitation to reconnect with that sense of wonder, where colouring outside the lines felt natural and freedom of expression was instinctive. It embraces a playful spirit, reminiscent of the days when skies could be pink, watermelons blue, and reality was whatever we dreamed it to be.

The prints, textures, and techniques in this collection will explore themes of nostalgia and innocence, bringing forward elements that echo childhood. creating pieces that speak to the person we once were—and still need.

COLOUR BOARD

Denim and Cotton

Denim as a fabric is known for its rugged durability and versatility and its ability to withstand all adventures. Whereas cotton with its soft and breathable nature and its ability to absorb and adapt perfectly symbolizes the ways in which we navigate experiences as we grow older.

Combining both together creates a blend of resilience and softness mirroring the duality of childhood.

Explorations

concept 1

Fragments

Scattered pieces reflect the bittersweet nature of growing up. While the initial fabric can’t stay intact forever certain pieces scatter while some remain, a reminder of where we came from, they may not form a whole, but their presence lingers shaping the fabric of who we are today.

concept 2

Strings and loops of fabrics

Each string representing a different memory, lesson, experience, or a moment. It moves and flows with the wind whilst also getting tangled at times yet constantly shifting and adapting to the ongoing journey of life. It may seem repetitive or simple at first glance but the patterns up-close reveal depth and layers of complexity.

concept 3

Pleating and stacked towels

Growing up isn’t a flat singular experience rather a complex and layered journey.
Some have more petals than thorns while others the opposite.
Each pleat, big or small, adds depth—some stand out, while others stay hidden, much like memories of triumph that are clear and those tucked away, revealed only in reflection.
The checks and stripes stacked are distinct in their patterns yet cohesive as a whole which mirrors the essence of what childhood is.

concept 4

Clothes of crayon

“To open a box of crayon, its waxy smell filling the room and you clutching on it to unleash your imagination on a blank sheet.”
The print emulates the spontaneous charm of crayon drawings, to make the garment feels like a wearable canvas/paper capturing the essence of uninhibited childhood creativity and spontaneity.
